The Colourmen Mixed Use Development
This mixed-use redevelopment of the former Winsor & Newton factory site provides 200 homes, workplace provision for the creative industries, education space, artists studios and commercial space. One of the key sites in Harrow & Wealdstone’s Area Action Plan site of intensification to deliver new homes and employment, the scheme balances best development value with good community benefits. The masterplan also allows for the expansion of a neighbouring school.

The proposals are socially sustainable; providing a range of dwelling types from starter homes to large family homes; and creating a high quality public realm and civic spaces. Environmental sustainability will be embedded in the architecture, with passive energy and carbon reducing measures leading the design.
Terraces and set backs will appear to be carved out of the major form, with a regularity and robustness reminiscent of the industrial architecture of the former factory buildings.
The terraces are highlighted with sequential colours selected from the Winsor and Newton charts, which celebrate the building’s history of paint production for over 100 years.
The use of colour coupled with the robust form of the brickwork reflect the unique history and context of the site. All homes meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
