Carlisle Health & Wellbeing Centre

Carlisle Health & Wellbeing Centre

The Carlisle Health and Wellbeing Centre forms part of a Strategic Development Plan by Belfast Trust for transforming its current health service delivery into a co-ordinated, ‘one stop shop’ model.

The centre houses a number of treatment and social care services under one roof for direct customer access and also serves as a base for outreach staff teams. All these are organised around a three-storey high central concourse, which is the heart of the building, allowing easy visual links and access to the sub-receptions and each department.

All public and clinical spaces are located either at ground or first floor for easy access and access is arranged around an ‘internal street’ which provides pleasant calming views out into a stepped, landscaped courtyard garden to the south. The external walls facing the courtyard are rendered and windows are interspersed with timber cladding. The children’s play area and the café area can both spill into the garden when weather allows.

The interiors have been carefully considered to provide a superior quality of finish that achieves a calming, non-institutional feel and promotes a sense of general wellbeing.

From the outside an architectural palette of brick, zinc, copper and aluminium windows gives the building an attractive and striking appearance appropriate to a significant public facility.
