Penoyre & Prasad – an arm of the architecture and design firm Perkins&Will – refurbished and extended the 1920s building to include a 180-person lecture theatre alongside a new suite of classrooms and learning spaces close to Birkbeck’s main Malet Street Campus.

373 Euston Road, a seven-storey building, houses a cafe and a learning hub across its ground and basement levels, while teaching spaces and the lecture theatre are set across its upper floors. The rooftop extension is a dedicated to the lecture theatre and a 25-person classroom.

“Our aim for this project was to breathe new life into the existing building and give Birkbeck a dynamic presence in a prominent location,” says Penoyre & Prasad Principal Mark Rowe.
