Penoyre & Prasad has created a copper-clad rooftop extension to the university’s Euston Road building, accommodating a new teaching and learning centre.

The refurbishment and extension of 373 Euston Road, close to Birkbeck’s main Malet Street Campus, accommodates a 180-person lecture theatre, classrooms and informal/formal co-learning spaces.

The geometric rooftop extension is clad in copper with a cantilevering façade and sits as a sculptural object on the urban corner of the building. The refurbishment aims to revitalise the existing seven-storey 1920s block while enhancing its original design elements.

“We’ve used every last inch of this building” says Mark Rowe, Principal and Project Lead.
