Penoyre & Prasad’s competition winning design for Hammond House – a new six storey residential building on the Isle of Dogs – has just received planning permission from London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The Hammond House redevelopment for East Thames Group is an exercise in providing family homes in an urban environment. It will provide a total of 56 new homes, a mixture of maisonettes and flats from one to five bedrooms. 33 of the units are family sized (three bedrooms or larger).

Given their urban location on the Isle of Dogs, all units will have unusually generous private amenity space with gardens for the ground level maisonettes, roof gardens for the top floor maisonettes and terraces or balconies for the mid level flats. The dynamic deeply profiled front elevation reflects the inset terraces and cantilevered balconies, emphasized by coloured reveals.

The new building will replace an unfit for purpose mansion block.

Construction is due to commence in January 2011 completing in 2012.
