Penoyre & Prasad’s scheme to reclad Guy’s Tower received unanimous planning approval last week from Southwark’s Planning committee. The scheme will reclad one of the world’s tallest hospital towers to address deterioration of the existing façade and tackle energy and performance issues common to many buildings of the period. The tower, which will remain fully operational throughout, will be over-clad with a mixture of flat and folded anodised aluminium panels which will prevent further deterioration. The transformed envelope alone is set to educe energy use by 15 – 20%.

We are delighted to have unanimous approval for this project, which we believe will yield valuable lessons for the thousands of buildings of the same period that must be upgraded and improve their energy efficiency.
