Clare Mckay, Architectural Trainee at Penoyre & Prasad will be spending the summer working in Zambia, in partnership with Girlguiding UK and Girlguiding Zambia.
Clare will be leading a team of 5 others from Girlguiding UK, as part of a 5 year partnership involving setting up training, workshops and education around gender equality, advocacy and body confidence.
Working alongside Girlguiding Zambia as part of GOLD (Girlguiding Overseas Linked with Development), these will cover subjects ranging from gender equality & gender based violence (as part of the ‘Stop the violence’ campaign in partnership with UN Women), to advocacy and body confidence (as part of ‘Free Being Me’, an initiative between WAGGGS and Dove). All this has the aim of empowering girls and young women to make a difference in their local communities, giving girls the confidence to speak out on issues which affect them, such against violence against women and girls, and the unrealistic expectations set by the media.
Over the duration of the partnership, there will be more and more people trained in Zambia to deliver the activities so that the project will eventually be taken over entirely by Girlguiding Zambia, in order to ensure a lasting difference can be made.
