The Charter School has been ranked top in the Tatler Guide to the Best State Secondary Schools 2017.
In 1999 Penoyre & Prasad won a competition to transform The Charter School’s original 1950s buildings into an exemplary modern learning environment for 1,200 pupils including a sixth form.
The school has recently won a local ‘Pupil Premium Award’ for the high level of attainment of their disadvantaged pupils, has achieved two Outstanding Ofsted reports and has GCSE results in the top 4% nationally.
Headteacher Christian Hicks believes ‘all our young people have the potential to achieve in school and succeed in life, and we ensure that students flourish here regardless of their starting points or circumstances, becoming creative, confident, caring citizens, who are happy in themselves, excited about learning, and ambitious for success.’
Tatler’s research team base their findings on a combination of extracurricular activities, pastoral care, A-Level and GCSE achievements, inspiring teachers, and by interviewing a selection of staff, pupils and parents.
