Watch the site progress of our 80-bed Care Home in York – groundworks, masonry and ground floor precast installation here.

The building is arranged to make best use of the site with well lit interior spaces with an enjoyable courtyard garden providing a secure outside environment for residents. The building steps back from adjacent neighbouring properties creating external spaces for residents on all floors.

The home is organised on three floors around the central courtyard with clusters of 8-11 bedrooms, living rooms and quiet rooms. At the entrance of the home is a shared area, known as the “Residents’ Hub”, where most of the daily activities will take place. The residents will have the choice of using a variety of spaces such as the café, residents bar, library/cinema, arts & crafts room, hair salon or gym.

The courtyard arrangement of the plan gives residents considerable freedom of movement without the need for restricted areas, as the back of house facilities have been provided with external access on the periphery of the building where they can be easily accessed for services.

The new home has been designed to high standards of dementia care using the University of Stirling Dementia Design Audit Tool, Happi Design Principles and the new HBN 08-02 recommendations.
