The first phase of an ambitious programme of town centre regeneration, this mixed-use development includes 130 apartments and 18 family houses as well as some commercial space. A quarter of the residential units will be for affordable rent, with the rest for private sale. The scheme involves two sites separated by an existing car park, which has been transformed into a landscaped civic square.
On the northern site, the former Lord Street car park is being replaced with a development of 106 one and two-bedroom apartments with commercial units at ground floor level.
The accommodation is arranged around a sheltered courtyard with secure parking below. The design includes a landmark tower, which will be a new focus for the revitalised town centre.
On the southern site, two and three-storey terraced houses and a four-storey apartment block are set around a new public square. A further terrace of seven town houses extends the existing Victorian street pattern and culminates in a six-storey block of flats.
