The New QEII Hospital won two awards – Healthcare Building under 25,000m2 and the Interior Design and Arts (with Art in Site) – at the European Healthcare Design Awards congress & exhibition, held at the Royal College of Physicians on 28th June.

The New QEII Hospital is an exemplar of low energy, sustainable design, the hospital has achieved BREEAM Excellent, and is particularly designed around the wellbeing of patients. The building design integrates the work of several artists, both practical and decorative, to enrich the narrative and celebrate the health service.

The European Healthcare Design Awards 2016 are organised by Architects for Health and SALUS Global Knowledge Exchange, and celebrate and recognise professional excellence in the design of healthcare environments. It is intended that they will contribute towards the development of knowledge and standards in the design of healthcare environments around the world.

The awards evaluation committee includes international researchers, practitioners and policy advisors, who bring specialist multidisciplinary expertise to the specific categories they have been invited to judge.

The hospital has also recently won RIBA Regional, Sustainability and National Awards and has been shortlisted for the WAN Healthcare Award.
