Penoyre & Prasad’s Part 1 colleague, Priscilla Fernandes was announced as the overall winner in a competition organisedby the City of London and designed to provide an opportunity for selected trainee masons to develop their stone masonry skills.

Students were asked to design a striking, innovative 21st century bench seat for the Riverside Walk, which can be carved from a single block of quarried natural stone.

Priscilla’s winning design called Flowerbed/Flowerbench features carvings inspired by the flowers and plants to be found along the River Thames and showcases the intricacies that can be achieved through stone masonry techniques.

The bench will be carved by the trainee masons from Cathedral Works Organisation and ‘opened’ on site by the Lord Mayor of London on 3rd December 2009.
